One of my favourite experiences during NYFW was when I got to go backstage with Stila Canada for Banana Republic and Frame. Watching a show is like magic, with the music and venue and presentation but there's something special about seeing how it all comes together.
Not only did I get to be a fly on the wall backstage, but I was able to interview the Global Artistic Director of Stila/Celebrity makeup artist, Sarah Lucero. So let me share my experience with you!
Upon arrival to backstage at Frame, I was met by the lovely Stila PR girl who took me inside. Quickly I watched as models dispersed into their makeup/hair chairs to get the process going. I made it over to the makeup area where I got a few minutes to observe before Sarah came over.
Being a loyal customer to both Stila and Frame, I immediately knew that this was a match made in fashion heaven. Frame is known for their "dress up casual" looks that is embodied by every off duty model while Stila takes runway and interprets it into a modern day girl's real life glam. Now who doesn't want that effortless model makeup look?
I was soon greeted by a warm and friendly Sarah. She explained that the look she was going for was a classic Frame girl which correlated with Stila's classic style. The look was to be more natural so Sarah wanted warmth in the models eyes using Stila's Smudge Stick Waterproof Eyeliner for a straight edgy cat eye with exaggerated mascara. The cheek and lip gave a stained look as if she were blushing that Sarah blotted off using the Stila Convertible Color Dual Lip and Cheek in Magnolia and she finishes with Color Balm lipstick in Vivienne to have that sexy 'bitten lip' look. The entire look gave me sexy, day after tousled make up. And the best part? The models were all so diverse and this look worked for every single one of them!
My favourite product used for the look was the Stay All Day Waterproof Brow Color. Sarah got a little personal and gave me a little backstory on the product. When she was testing the product with the original 3 colors, 6 years ago, she had breast cancer and was going through her treatments. Because of this she had to relearn and tweak the makeup tricks she knew. Her skin texture had changed with treatments and the regular makeup she was using was not staying on. Now because the Stila All Day Waterproof Brow is a stain and doesn't need to hold onto anything, through body temperature changes, hot flashes, wiping down her face, this product stayed on. The wispy applicator gives a natural look so no one knew it, but Sarah achieved natural looking eyebrows during this time even though she lost them.
Her brave story alone convinced me that I must try the product and since I've been home I have given it a go. As per Sarah's suggestion, I use 2 colors for my brows and it gives me the thick, natural but sharp looking eyebrow look that the models at the Frame show rocked.
The experience was so unreal. The Stila babes were a delight to be around. I am so grateful that I got to poke around backstage!
